Sagara Shuichi (Ito Hideaki), the only son of a long standing sake brewery, “Sagara Brewery” in Kanazawa which is deep in the red, is an elite banker working in Tokyo. However, he ends up being pressed for a divorce by his wife and relegated for assignment at his workplace as a result of defeat in a power struggle. Amidst all this, his mother, who was running the sake brewery after his father’s death, falls ill, and subsequently Shuichi quits his job at the bank and decides to dedicate his life to making sake. In quest of his ideal sake, Shuichi persuades Washio Yusaku (Tsugawa Masahiko), the legendary master brewer feared as an ogre, to work with him. But the brewery workers he was able to gather are all inexperienced in sake making and they had all lost their place in society due to their respective circumstances. Will the day come when the drops of the ultimate “liquid” they pursued will flow?
