Amedeo Modigliani (1884 - 1920)
The Italian painter and sculptor Modigliani settled in Paris in 1906, where
he encountered Toulose Lautrec and Picasso (in his "blue period") and
assimilated their influence. He was most influenced by Cézanne paintings.
He developed a unique style by painting port but during
his brief career few apart his fellow artists were aware of his talent. He
had to struggle against poverty and chronic ill health, dying of tuberculosis
and excess of drink and drugs at the age of 35.
