模拟人生3梦想起飞---如果说前一部世界冒险是增加新的探险环境，给予新的模拟人生的话，那么这部名为野心/梦想起飞的资料片，则是从玩家的职业为切入点，以玩家在游戏中的社会行为，从而影响玩家周围的生活环境。
《梦想起飞》最大的进步，就是生涯之路的游戏过程。藉由选择专业，您会接到相关的任务，让玩家在指定的工期内完成任务，就可以获得奖励。这些任务目标不仅有趣，还具有角色扮演的特性，让玩家感受充满惊奇的游戏过程。举例来说，选择专业为捕鬼大师，您得进行超自然现象的调查，包含将鬼魂吸入您的携带式真空吸鬼器里面。工作过程中还充满各式的变化，您可以把携来的鬼魂卖给研究所，换取额外的钞票；或是扮演一个好人，将这些呻吟的鬼魂们释放到墓地里。
如果您的个性比较正经，您可以选择扮演一位侦探。侦探的初始任务相当有趣，您得为客户找出是谁在网路论坛上攻讦他，或是找回遗失的漱口水。慢慢地，您也得开始调查遗留的指纹、入侵电脑系统、撰写警政报告等等。虽然刚开始您得为附近的警局做一些缺乏格调的工作，但是口碑慢慢地建立以后，您就可以出来自己开设侦探事务所。您也可以选择建筑师，服装设计师、消防员、以及其他不及繁载的众多专业。无论玩家是选择哪种专业，您都能享受到工作的乐趣、并乐于和拜访的客户见面，迎接刺激的挑战。如果您做得相当出色，市政府甚至会出面颁一个大奖给玩家。
