为了防止蚊子叮咬人们可没少花心思，纱窗、蚊帐、蚊香、杀虫剂、驱蚊灯等等。不过似乎没有哪种方法是完全奏效的，总有蚊子会成为漏网之鱼叮咬我们。痒痒就算了，蚊子能够传播寨卡、疟疾等病毒更让人感到害怕。如今科学家发现了新的驱蚊方法，只是，人们可能难以接受。瑞典大学农业科学院的一个研究团队发现：蚊子会避开有活鸡气味的一切东西。虽然详细的原因还不明确，但蚊子肯定讨厌活鸡的气味中的某些成分。对于生活在埃塞俄比亚的人来说，蚊子叮咬是一个重大的问题。仅在去年，埃塞俄比亚因蚊子叮咬患上疟疾而死亡的人数就有40万之多。因此研究人员选择了埃塞俄比亚作为实验地点。在实验中，他们在一个睡觉的人旁边悬挂了一只活鸡，结果是实验对象被蚊子叮咬的次数显著下降。当然，生活中我们是绝对不会为了驱蚊把活鸡挂在床边的。好在研究人员确定了鸡身上的哪些气味能驱蚊，接下来他们将提取这种味道，制作出能被大众接受的，如驱蚊膏之类的产品。因蚊子很快就能对杀虫剂产生抗药性，杀虫剂的功效很难长久。用活鸡气味驱蚊的方法可能会有所不同，在不远的未来将发挥重要的作用。
